What is Vettri Payanam Yojana 2026?
The Vettri Payanam Scheme is Tamil Nadu Government’s flagship women empowerment transport scheme. On 2nd October 2026, the government announced its biggest expansion ever. Now free travel is not limited to ordinary town buses. The government has included Express, Limited Stop Service (LSS), Deluxe, Mofussil Ordinary and Ghat Ordinary buses operating in corporation and municipal areas.
🎯 Why This Scheme is Historic?
This expansion covers 85% of all scheduled single trips in Tamil Nadu. That means out of every 100 buses running daily, 85 buses are now free for women. No other state in India offers such wide free transport coverage. It will help women reach workplaces, colleges, hospitals and government offices without worrying about daily fare of Rs 30-100.
